I. Overview

Thank you for visiting Peoriaaz.gov and reviewing our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. The City of Peoria takes your privacy seriously. This policy is designed to let you know what information the City collects when you use Peoriaaz.gov, why we collect it, how we use the information, and who to contact with questions.

The information presented here is not meant to be a contract of any type, either express or implied, and should not be treated as such by you. This policy may change at any time, without prior notice to you. This policy does not describe information collection policies on any other site.

II. Security Statement

The City takes preventative measures to protect the integrity of its data and prevent unauthorized access to information it maintains, including but not limited to auditing, authentication, encryption, and monitoring. The City also employs technical and other safeguards to protect financial and other sensitive information for those who choose to do business with the City over the Internet, such as making electronic payments for goods and services. These measures are designed and intended to prevent data corruption, block unknown or unauthorized access to our systems and information, and to provide reasonable protection of personally identifying information in our possession.

The City monitors network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information to otherwise cause damage to the site. By using this Web site you expressly consent to such monitoring. Unauthorized attempts to upload information or change information on this site are prohibited and may be punishable under state and federal law including the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1984 and the National Information Infrastructure Protection Act of 1996.

The City recognizes that there is no such thing as "perfect security," so this information should not be construed in any way as giving business, legal, or other advice, or warranting or guaranteeing the security of information you provide via the City's Website as fail proof.

III. Information We Collect

We collect and retain personal information for the following purposes:

  • To process your requests for services, products or further information
  • To communicate with you regarding services or products that you have requested - for example to send you a statement or a receipt
  • To identify you if you have a query or concern about the service or product that you have requested
  • To advise you about changes to our web service offerings and of service interruptions
  • To meet legal and regulatory requirements

a. Information for Statistical Purposes

This is information collected that does not identify specific individuals by name, and is automatically transmitted by your browser when visiting City Web sites. Examples of the types of anonymous information we collect includes:

  • URL's or addresses of the web pages you visit while at our City Web sites,
  • the IP address assigned to your computer (or as generated by your Internet service provider),
  • information about the type of browser you are using and its configuration
  • other technical metrics related to your browser connection to our City Web sites.

This type of information is used for statistical purposes, to help us improve our Web site content and navigation. It is collected for ALL City Web site visitors automatically.

b. Use of Cookies

This website uses cookies for statistical purposes and, in some web-based applications, to track user activity. These are not used to collect personal information, to access your computer files or to gain control of your computer in any way. If your browser has the option of accepting cookies turned off, you may find access to some City web services affected.

What are Cookies?
Cookies are text files, stored on your computer, that are used by web servers to store information about you as a user of that website. Cookies are unique to each website and information in them cannot be accessed by other websites. That means a cookie saved on your computer from the City of Scottsdale's website can only be accessed and used on the City of Peoria website.

There are two types of cookies: persistent and temporary. The difference between them is lifespan.

a. Contacting the City

You may be asked to provide personal information (e.g. name, address, postal code, telephone number, etc.) when contacting the city with a question on inquiry, when applying for a job, or for a registering for City services including but not limited to, classes, events, and other programs.

b. Email Subscriptions

The City of Peoria offers many "subscription-based" e-mail services, where visitors can elect to sign up to receive periodic e-mail notifications regarding items such as City news events, requests for bids for goods and services and job postings (to name a few). To offer this service we must collect your e-mail address information and store it. This information is only used for distributing e-mail notices that you have specifically subscribed to.

By agreeing to use this service, you are granting the City of Peoria permission to send you periodic e-mails about those topics for which you have registered. The City will not add you to any e-mail lists that you have not specifically signed up for through our registration process. The City of Peoria does not buy, sell, trade or rent e-mailing lists with, for or to third parties. Visitors are free to "un-subscribe" from any e-mail list they may be registered to by following the instructions distributed with every e-mail sent by this service, or by visiting the e-mail subscription page on the site.

V. Information Disclosure

As a government agency, we are governed by public records law, under which the public has a right to access appropriate records and information possessed by City government. At the same time, there are exceptions to the public’s right to access public records that serve various needs including the privacy and safety of individuals. Any information, including e-mails, that we receive through the use of our site is subject to the same public records law provisions as information provided on paper. In the event of a conflict between this Privacy Policy and public records law or other law governing the disclosure of records, the law will control.

Otherwise, we do not share personally identifying information with any third party without your permission, unless we are legally required to do so in connection with law enforcement investigations or other legal proceedings. We disclose only in aggregate form our statistical analyses or demographics of users to third parties. This information is not reported or used in any matter that would reveal personally identifying information and is not released to any outside parties unless we are legally required to do so in connection with law enforcement investigations or other legal proceedings.

IX. Notice Regarding Mobile Applications

The City of Peoria has partnered with App-Order.com to provide a free mobile application available for both Apple and Android devices. This application or "app" allows residents to report civic issues and view contact information for elected officials and city departments.

The information provided by the City's mobile application is for general informational purposes only. All information in the mobile application is provided in good faith, however we make no representation or warranty of any kind, express or implied, regarding the accuracy, adequacy, validity, reliability, availability, or completeness of any information on the mobile application.

Under no circumstances shall the City have any liability to you for any fees/charges, loss or damage of any kind incurred as a result of the use of our mobile application or reliance on any information provided in the mobile application. Your use of the mobile application and your reliance on any information contained within is solely at your own risk.

X. Information Accuracy

The City of Peoria has made every reasonable effort to ensure the accuracy of the information provided on Peoriaaz.gov. However, the City does not guarantee the accuracy of the information provided on this site.
