Every spring and summer we offer group and one-on-one swimming lessons for children. Swimming is an important life skill that all children should learn early on. Make sure your children gain the important benefits from learning to swim of water safety, coordination, social skills and fitness.

Remember, even if your children know how to swim, always watch them around water.

The City of Peoria has developed a new swim lesson program.  Please read the class descriptions carefully or follow the Flow Chart to determine the appropriate level.  All instructors are certified American Red Cross Lifeguards.

      1. Step One: Obtain client ID and password 
         To register, you must have an account set up with the City of Peoria Community Services Department.  To set up an account, click here or call (623) 773-7137.   New accounts can only be created during office hours, 7am - 6pm Monday trhough Thursday.  On-line requests are checked for residency and duplication before being activated.  
      2. Step Two - Determine appropriate level
        The City of Peoria has developed a new swim lesson program.  Please read Class Descriptions carefully or follow the Flow Chart to determine the appropriate level.  All instructors are certified American Red Cross Lifeguards.
      3. Step Three - Locate barcode for desired session/class/pool/time
        Click on the pool schedule links in the chart below to locate the appropriate barcode for the class you are wishing to register for.  Make sure to check the registration dates, as classes fill up quickly.
      4. Step Four - Log onto RecConnect and register

Aquatics Design Element2 Junior Lifeguard Classes and Program

The City of Peoria offers an extensive Jr. Guard program for anyone who has completed 7th grade.
Participants learn:

CPR & First Aid Skills  Fitness Swimming  Resume Writing  Volunteerism 
Drowning Prevention Lifeguard Duties Interview Skills  
Water Rescue Response Leadership Professionalism  

To be considered for a City of Peoria Junior Lifeguard position, all participants (including returning Jr. Guards from previous years) must complete a Junior Lifeguard course to be considered for a 2016 City of Peoria Jr. Guard position. Participants interview on the final day of their Jr. Guard Course. Those selected to be City of Peoria Jr. Guards for the season will be assigned to a pool and given opportunities for volunteering throughout the summer. Twelve Jr. Guards are selected for each pool and participate in skills clinics, in-service trainings, swim lesson instruction and more. Schedules are flexible for the Jr. Guards and allow for summer vacations.

Incentives are offered for participants in the Jr. Guard Course and those selected as City of Peoria Jr. Guards.
