Recruiting Park Watch Captains
The Peoria Police Department is expanding its Park Watch program, and is looking for citizens who are willing to act as Park Watch Captains to help establish, coordinate and run new chapters.
The Park Watch program is a partnership between citizens, police and park rangers. In addition to protecting neighborhood parks, the program educates citizens concerning criminal activity that may surround neighborhood parks. It also educates park neighbors on the roles and responsibilities of the police, park rangers, and citizens to observe and report criminal activity or any other park problem requiring immediate attention. The Park Watch program is not a program that asks citizens to pursue or apprehend criminals or enforce laws and park rules.

Park Watch Chapter Captains are members of the Park Watch program who act as a spokesperson for the chapter, and organize, schedule, and coordinate chapter activities. The captain also acts as a liaison between the Park Watch Chapter and the Police Department’s Neighborhood Services section.
For active park users, the level of commitment involved with Park Watch is minimal. A Park Watch Chapter is asked to spend at least three hours per week in their neighborhood park; with at least half of that time spent during the weekend. This includes time spent by the captain and any other chapter members combined.
