Sign Code Modernization Project – Updated 2/6/18
The Planning Division has been undertaking the task to modernize Sections 827 through 837 of the Zoning Ordinance, otherwise referred to as the “Sign Code”. The project was initially introduced to City Council at the March 2016 City Council Study Session and since then, staff has continually been gathering stakeholder feedback on the proposed changes. Given the extensive nature of the task, the Sign Code Modernization Project has been an iterative process. The draft code is a result of several rounds of comments from internal City staff and well as external stakeholders and the general public. This has included internal research and regional benchmarking, interdepartmental involvement, and external stakeholder outreach and involvement through in-person meetings and other communication to gather input and feedback.
City staff presented the final draft of the Sign Code at the February 1, 2018 Planning and Zoning Commission meeting for their consideration and recommendation to City Council. A copy of the final draft of the Sign Code may be downloaded using the link below.

The next step is for the City Council to review the Planning and Zoning Commission’s recommendation at a public hearing, which has been tentatively set for:

About the Planning and Community Development Department
The Planning and Community Development Department is responsible for establishing short and long-range development standards, Housing Services, Peoria Support, the Neighborhood Pride Program, implementation and administration of city zoning, planning, and development policies. The Department also provides staff support for the City Council, Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustments, Design Review Board, and the Historic Preservation Commission.
