Your Health and Fitness Matters 

 It really does!  The following classes are designed to help seniors achieve or maintain an optimum level of fitness.   

Fitness Room

The fitness equipment is available for your use any time a class is not in progress. Completion of Fitness Waiver and Fitness Orientations are required before you can gain access to the equipment. Walk in orientations are available on a staff availability basis.

 SilverSneakers CardioFit (Comparable to current Fit After 50 Cardio)

 Try a safe and heart-healthy aerobics class to energize your active lifestyle using low-impact movements that focus specifically on building upper-body and core strength plus cardio endurance. This is a higher intensity class than Classic and Circuit.

SilverSneakers Classic (Comparable to current Sit-N-Fit)

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscle strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance. A chair is used for seated exercises and standing support. This class can be adapted by the student depending on their fitness level and abilities. It is suitable for beginning to intermediate skill levels.

SilverSneakers BOOM™MUSCLE (Comparable to current Fit After 50) - Mondays at 9:30 am

Muscle incorporates athletic-based exercises that improve upper body conditioning. You’ll move through several “blocks,” which are groups of exercises that focus on different muscle groups. The focus of this class is on toning muscles and building overall strength.

SilverSneakers BOOM™MIND (Comparable to current Fit After 50) - Mondays at 9:30 am

Strength. Confidence. Flexibility. Mind takes the best from yoga and Pilates and combines them into one fusion class. Designed to relax the body and mind with peaceful music and invigorating movements. The focus of this class is on core muscles, lower body strength and balance.

Zumba

Tuesday 8 am & Thursdays, 9 - 10 am, ongoing Instructor : Akua Jitahadi. $1.50 per class (SilverSneakers Participants can also use their benefit here)

Line Dances 

These classes do not require a partner. Dances range from beginner to beginner-plus in difficulty level.  $5 per class | $50/10-class punch card | $25/5-class punch card
  • Line Dance I:  Mondays, 9:30 - 11 a.m.   
  • Line Dance II:  Tuesdays, 10 - 11:30 a.m. & Wednesdays, 9:30 - 11 a.m.  

Yoga

Thursdays from 7:45 - 8:45 a.m.  Instructor: Samantha Keating, $1.50/class (SilverSneakers Participants can also use their benefit here)

 Tai Chi Essentials 

Tuesdays from 9 - 9:50 a.m, $1.50/class  (SilverSneakers Participants can also use their benefit here)

Benefits Assistance

Volunteer counselors, specially trained by the Area Agency on Aging, Region One’s Benefits Assistance Program, provide objective, free personalized assistance to seniors and adults with disabilities. Services include information on Medicare and supplemental plans. Call 602-241-6118 to set up an appointment with a counselor at the Community Center.

Nutrition Program

The Peoria Senior Nutrition Program is located in the Community Center and provides meal programs for seniors and individuals with disabilities. The program is administered by the Foundation for Senior Living and funded in part by the Area Agency on Aging and the City of Peoria. For additional information on the programs listed below or reservations, please contact the Nutrition Program at 623-979-3570.

Lunch at the Center

We invite seniors 60 and older for lunch at 11:45 a.m., Monday through Friday. 24 hour notice is required and a $3.00 donation ($5 for those younger than 60) is requested.  Your contribution is voluntary and appreciated as it helps offset the food cost. Home Delivered Meals

Transportation to the Center

If a lack of transportation is keeping you from enjoying activities with the Senior Program try Peoria's transit system, Dial-a-Ride.  Learn about Dial-A-Ride here or call 623-773-7435. The Food Distribution Program

The Food Distribution Program has changed for the benefit of all people in need!  We've partnered with St. Mary's Food Bank and there are NO cards needed and NO donations expected from you.  You simply pick up food once a week on Thursday mornings (8-9 a.m. approximately) at the Peoria Community Center.  No preregistration required. The variety includes vegetables, fruits, some miscellaneous products, drinks and usually some bread and pastries.  Call 623-979-3570 for more information.
