Art Exhibit by Michael Cunningham
January 7, 2019 - March 3, 2019
Michael Cunningham's work is an exploration of abstract expressionism through texture, color and forms. Michael's portfolio incorporates many artistic styles including Abstract, African, Musical and Floral. His work embodies these styles and they are easily recognizable because his creations have a signature color composition and élan. Jazz compositions create color that can be translated to canvas and Michael will demonstrate this theory as the audience enjoys music by some of the great jazz artists.
This show is sponsored by West Valley Art Museum in collaboration with Vision & Sound: An African American Experience.
My method that I most enjoy is finding an image that seems exceptional, then working with layers and filters until I am satisfied with the results. This is a lengthy process and sometimes doesn't work out. The fun is in the discovery, the serendipity, finding the "wow" factor. I then print out the image on canvas which also allows me to paint on it. Recently, I have been experimenting with alcohol inks, photographed, then enlarged in photoshop and framed.
Even during my working days as a clinical social worker in Omaha, NE, I knew I needed to move to the Southwest to pursue my artistic inclinations. In Phoenix, I took all the photography classes at Glendale Community College. Just at that time, photoshop came into being, along with graphic tools, and the rest is history. I went on to earn juried status with the major art leagues in Phoenix and have participated in many shows.
I can be contacted at email@example.com to purchase from this show.
