Our History

Founded in 1886 and incorporated in 1954, Peoria has blossomed from a humble farming town to a rapidly-growing, modern city of more than 180,000.

Peoria City Hall campus is home to many administrative functions of the city. It is located in the heart of Downtown Peoria and features beautiful landscaping and many public art pieces.

Peoria's City Hall feels like a college campus, with staff working in seven different buildings connected by green spaces and shaded seating areas.

Decades Walk and Centennial Plaza

Another unique Peoria feature is the Decades Walk, which showcases National, State, and City historical dates and events. A walking circle surrounds a wide open green space called Centennial Plaza and features some of Peoria's many public art pieces. In the cooler months, the walking circle is busy with people.

A hidden gem of the City Hall campus is the xeriscape garden. The garden is a quiet reprieve that offers shaded seating areas and is a great place to enjoy a break.
