Peoria Police Department Divisions
The Operations Division is overseen by a Deputy Chief of Police and consists of the Patrol Services Bureau and Operations Support Bureau.
Operations Support Bureau
The Operations Support Bureau is managed by a Police Commander and is responsible for a variety of operational support units, which includes criminal investigations, the K-9 Unit, the SWAT team, and traffic enforcement.
Criminal Investigations Section - violent crimes, and crimes involving special victims are handled by this section
Special Assignment Unit – Crisis Negotiations and SWAT make up this unit
Special Enforcement Section – property crimes, narcotics, K-9 officers, and motorcycle officers are included in this section
Patrol Services Bureau
The Patrol Services Bureau (PSB), which comprises the majority of sworn personnel, provides 24-hour emergency response to our citizens' calls for service.
The PSB provides police services to the growing community by focusing on five operational goals:
- Prevent crime and disorder
- Respond promptly to calls for service
- Develop safer neighborhoods through community partnerships and participation
- Enhance traffic safety
- Maintain the integrity, quality and effectiveness of policing services. Patrol Services Bureau members are the first responders to all calls for service from our citizens. In this role, officers are trained to provide a variety of services which include accident investigation, emergency response to crimes in progress, proactive patrols, and crime prevention.
Peoria police services are divided between two commands, each commanded by a Police Patrol Commander. South Command works out of the Public Safety Administration Building located 8351 W. Cinnabar and responsible for all service south of Bell Road. The Northern Command works out of to the Pinnacle Peak Public Safety Facility located at 23100 N. Lake Pleasant Parkway and responsible for providing services north of Bell Road.
Patrol Services Bureau also includes crime analysis and School Resource Officers.
Support Services Division
The Support Services Division is overseen by a Deputy Chief of Police and consists of the Communications Section, Neighborhood Services, and Youth & Support Services.
Communications – answering all incoming calls for service and 911 emergency calls
Youth and Support Services – Recruitment and training are included in this section
Neighborhood Services - park rangers, code enforcement officers, and volunteers are included in this section
Animal Control - officers handle animal related calls within the city
Administrative Services - responsible for Records, Financial Services, Strategic Planning, and Procurement of Equipment and Supplies. In addition they are also responsible for Department Information and Technology.
