Peoria Residents Get Essential Free Services

Peoria’s Passport to Summer is May 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rio Vista Recreation Center located at 8866 W. Thunderbird Road in Peoria. Peoria’s Passport to Summer is an annual event that brings together local and regional non-profits to provide Peoria residents with free health and human services and resources. The city of Peoria, Adelante Health Care, HART Pantry and Wells Fargo will be working together to provide families with the following:

• Dental check-ups for children under five and pregnant women
• Vision and hearing screening
• Medical screening (blood pressure and body mass index)
• Internet safety workshop
• Financial awareness workshop
• Heat fatigue and water consumption workshop
• Limited food bag distribution
• Limited clothing will be available

Peoria Pools Open Memorial Day Weekend

As temperatures rise and the days get longer, visit the nearest Peoria pool for some fun in the sun. All three city pools will open Memorial Day weekend for open swim and lap. Sunrise Pool (21321 N. 86th Dr.) will open May 28 while Peoria (11200 N. 83rd Ave.) and Centennial (14388 N. 79th Dr.) Pools open May 30. There are several individual and family passes available, ranging from $1 (ages 2-16) to $75 for a family pass that is redeemable at all three pools. For those interested in swim lessons, water aerobics, Aqua Boot Camp or Swim Across Peoria, visit www.peoriaaz.gov/aquatics or call 623-773-7137.

Catch a Professional Soccer Game in Peoria

The soccer season is in full swing at the Peoria Sports Complex. Arizona United SC, a Peoria-based professional soccer team that is a member of the United Soccer League, returned to the complex through a multi-year deal. Twelve of Arizona United’s 15 home matches will be on Saturdays. Upcoming home matches include:

Saturday, May 7 against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC
Saturday, May 21 against Orange County Blues FC
Saturday, June 18 against Saint Louis FC
Saturday, June 25 against Sacramento Republic FC

Nominate your Neighborhood for Neighborhood Pride

The next Neighborhood Pride season is coming soon. Nominate your neighborhood today! Neighborhood Pride is designed to help established neighborhoods maintain their appearance and value through exterior maintenance. The program is a cooperative work effort between the City, residents and volunteers and typical enhancements include exterior house painting, minor fence repairs, removal of unwanted items or debris and placement or replenishment of gravel.
