Peoria to Host Shakespeare in the Park
For the first time, the city of Peoria will hold Shakespeare in the Park featuring Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” and a menagerie of other Renaissance-themed entertainment and festivities on March 3.
The Southwest Shakespeare Company will perform “Twelfth Night.” This play is a deliciously dark comedy of mistaken identities, misdirected passions and touchingly human celebration. Lovers and misfits, clowns and gentry collide in an entertaining cocktail of comic confusion in this classic Shakespeare comedy!
In addition to the live theatrical performance, attendees can enjoy the Royal Renaissance Singers, a stiltwalker, a juggler, face painting and a student monologue showcase prior to the play. In addition, festivalgoers can make their own crest (coat of arms) at the WHAM Mobile Art Studio and visit the Youth Council tent before 8 p.m. to paint a rock and post your pictures to #PeoriaArtRocks on social media. Show your support of local Peoria art and keep your creation close-at-hand or place it at one of Peoria’s parks for someone to find.
All ages can enjoy this free event from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, March 3 at Peoria’s Centennial Plaza, 9875 N. 85th Ave. “Twelfth Night” will begin at 7:30 p.m. Bring thy family, blankets and chairs.
