The census is coming in 2020. The U.S. Constitution requires the federal government to conduct a census count every 10 years. Cities and states rely on these population counts to determine what state-shared revenue they will receive. This money is used to fund essential city services like public safety, roads, parks, hospitals and schools. Each person counted is worth $3,000 in public services. For the first time ever, individuals can respond to the census online and by phone or mail. Counts begin on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, which is National Census Day.
