Dunn Sworn in as Pine District Councilmember

Post Date:09/17/2019

On Tuesday night, Councilmember Denette Dunn was sworn in as the new representative for the Peoria Pine District. Dunn won the seat with 88% of the vote

“Councilmember Dunn’s overwhelming victory shows just how much trust and support she shares with the citizens she represents,” said Mayor Cathy Carlat. “I’m pleased to welcome her to the Peoria City Council.”

Councilmember Dunn has been the interim district representative since late April the late Councilmember Carlo Leone resigned in the same month. On Tuesday, Aug. 27, there was a special primary election for Pine District residents to select a new councilmember. The Maricopa County Recorder’s Office named Dunn the winner with 88% of the vote on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

“As John F. Kennedy once said, ‘As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.’ As the newly elected Pine District councilmember, it is my privilege to serve my city and community,” said Councilmember Dunn. “My actions will be that of engagement and listening to the residents who entrusted me to represent them. My mom always said ‘many hands make light work.’ The success of the Pine District and the entire city of Peoria depends on all of us working together to build an even better community. I will work hard and am grateful to be able to do so, on your behalf.”

Prior to becoming councilmember, Dunn worked in the business management, marketing and communications industries and served on the planning and zoning commission since fall 2018. In her time as interim councilmember, she met with all city departments, held several community meetings and participated in council meetings. Dunn interests are water conservation, public transportation, street maintenance and development along Peoria Avenue and Loop 101.
