Peoria Neighborhood Services Seek Feedback

Post Date:08/22/2019

Many residents receive support through city of Peoria programs such as emergency home repairs, rehabilitation projects and homelessness. To continue receiving federal funding for these vital neighborhood services, the city is gathering feedback and assessing the needs of Peoria’s residents through an online survey.

“Everything we do is aimed at improving the lives of Peoria families,” said Mayor Cathy Carlat. “This funding provides critical services to our residents and to the agencies providing regional solutions to difficult issues. As we continue this work, this survey is one more way to ensure our programs and services bring real value to our community.”

The City of Peoria receives federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) funds from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) each year. As a requirement of receiving these funds, the city of Peoria must conduct a community survey and complete a reassessment process every five years. The purpose of this process is to assess the city’s needs, priorities and goals for serving residents in need of neighborhood and human services. The results of this process are compiled in a document called the Five-Year Consolidated Plan, which is used to help determine how the federal funds will be spent in the city over that period of time.

“Getting public input on the critical needs of Peoria directly translates to our ability to successfully allocate these precious, but limited, resources to those most in need in our community over the next five years,” said Peoria Neighborhood and Human Services Director Chris Hallett.
