Mayor Carlat Announces Third Annual Peoria Reads
Peoria Mayor Cathy Carlat is excited to announce the third annual summer literacy program for Peoria residents: Peoria Reads: Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader.
“Helping our children acquire a love of reading is a gift that lasts a lifetime and I’m so excited to kick off the summer with this valuable reading program. There will be amazing events and opportunities to win great prizes over the next few months; I hope families join us on this reading adventure,” said Mayor Carlat.
The free program was created by Mayor Carlat to promote and enhance literacy among our youth population by encouraging Peoria’s future workforce to read 20 minutes a day over the summer. Peoria residents can sign up at the Peoria Main Library at 8463 W. Monroe St. or Sunrise Mountain Library at 21109 N. 98th Ave., to receive a bookmark to track their reading progress. The bookmark can be turned in at the end of summer for a chance to win numerous prizes, including Barnes and Noble gift cards, digital reading tablets and one of two complete book sets. Children can also increase their chances of winning by attending free, activity-filled events throughout the summer.
