Water is Arizona’s most precious natural resource

Peoria has 25 water production wells

Peoria has joined with the City of Glendale in their Pyramid Peak Water Treatment Plant which treats Colorado River Water

Peoria operates its own Greenway Water Treatment Plant which treats Salt and Verde River Water

Average family of 4 uses 219,000 gallons of water per year (approximately 0.67 acre-foot)

One acre-foot of water is 325,851 gallons or enough water to cover one acre a foot deep in water

Peoria used 7.4 billion gallons of water in 2002 ( 22,712 acre-feet)

In 2002 Peoria used 73% CAP water and 3% groundwater and 23% SRP water

Peoria’s Central Arizona Project (CAP) allocation is 6.42 billion gallons (19,709 acre-feet)

Central Arizona Project (CAP) water comes from the Colorado River

Salt River Project (SRP) water comes from the Salt River and Verde River

XERISCAPE landscaping is attractive and uses little water. Xeriscape comes from the Greek word xeros, which means dry. It is pronounced "zeer-I-scape," not to be confused with zero-scape, which implies a barren land.

There are more than 130 native and desert adapted plants ideal for xeriscape gardens.
