Old Town Peoria Pedestrian Enhancement Project
The Arizona Department of Transportation and the City of Peoria are working on a new project at the Grand Avenue intersections with 83rd and Peoria Avenues. The project will enhance the look of the Grand Avenue intersections and extend the Old Town Peoria theme from nearby Washington Street, which was designed to complement the new Peoria Center for Performing Arts.

The construction is expected to take about 5 months to complete, with work occurring primarily at the intersections of 83rd and Grand Avenues, Peoria and Grand Avenues, and a portion of 83rd and Peoria Avenues on the approach to Grand Avenue. Construction activities will not begin before 6 a.m. and will conclude before 7 p.m. on a day following a holiday, work will not begin until after 9 a.m. The project will be broken into several phases, the first of which began in early March at 83rd Avenue, south of Grand Avenue and is scheduled to be completed on April 21st. The second phase is scheduled to begin on April 24th at 83rd Avenue, north of Grand Avenue. Please click here (PDF 4MB) for a tentative schedule of the remaining phases. It will be necessary to fully close portions of 83rd Avenue and Peoria Avenue north and south of Grand Avenue to complete some of the work. These closures will be completed independently at each intersection to maintain traffic flow at the adjacent intersection. Signs will be posted to provide advance warning of all lane closures and detours to area businesses and motorists. Signs will also be used to direct customers into businesses impacted by the closure. Traffic lanes on Grand Avenue will be restricted in various sections throughout the construction period. However, lane closures will be timed so traffic flow can be maintained as much as possible. Only one travel lane in each direction will be closed at any given time on Grand Avenue (U.S. 60).

During construction, please be alert to changing traffic control signs, watch for flagmen and watch for large construction vehicles and equipment entering the roadway in the construction zone.
