Sports Complex Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Peoria Sports Complex?
The Peoria Sports Complex was the first Major League Baseball spring training and player development facility in the country that is shared by two teams. Built in 1994, the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners, through 20 year leases, utilize the Peoria Sports Complex all year round for Spring Training and player development. It sits on 145 acres, and contains two 40,000 square foot clubhouses, indoor, and outdoor batting tunnels, 12 major league sized practice fields, (two lighted), and 2 half fields. The complex also has an 11,000 seat stadium, with full press box, luxury boxes, lighted field, auxiliary clubhouse, and full concession stands. The two team clubhouses contain minor and major league locker rooms, coaches locker rooms and offices, minor and major league training rooms, weight room, multipurpose room, media room, fan reception area, and club personnel offices.

When do the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres report for Spring Training, and when do spring training games begin?
The pitchers and catchers usually report in the middle of February, with position players reporting a few days later. The Spring Training season at the Peoria Sports Complex starts around the first of March, and with two teams in the facility, we have a game almost every day during the month of March. After Spring Training, on the practice fields, the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres hold extended spring training until the end of May, and their Summer Rookie League through the end of August. In mid September, the teams hold Fall Instructional League through the end of October. Also in October and November, Major League Baseball holds their annual Arizona Fall League, with each major league team sending their top 6 prospects to Arizona for winter ball. The Peoria Sports Complex stadium has the Peoria Javelinas and the Peoria Saguaros, playing two months of baseball almost every day.
