VETERANS MEMORIAL WALL
CONTRIBUTIONS
It
is the intent and the desire of the City of Peoria to partner with
recognized service organizations to make the memorial come to life.
The
eighty-eight foot long black granite wall gives special recognition to the
current five branches of the armed forces: Army, Navy, marines Air force
and Coast Guard. The United States Great Seal is boldly represented
on the first eight foot panel section along with the five service branches
and a special tribute that states: "this memorial is dedicated by
the City of Peoria to all of those who have served and are serving our
country in the defense of freedom".
An
inscription through the remaining eighty feet wall section bares saying: "Let
every nation know, whether it wished us well or ill that we shall pay any
price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any
foe to assure the survival and success of freedom." John F.
Kennedy, 1961 Inaugural Address
About
Your Contribution
The
City of Peoria Veterans Memorial Wall is a collection of history and
remembrance of contributions made by men and women who have served their
country.
Throughout
the past 250 years of history in the United States, there have been eleven
major wars ranging from the American Revolution to the Global War on
Terrorism. A historian from Arizona State University was consulted
by the City and members of the Veterans Memorial Board to identify noted
events and battles that the United States of America was engaged un during
each of these wars. These events will be etched on 20" x
16" plaques on the Memorial Wall with your contribution of $400
(each).
Each
sponsor will be acknowledged by having the service organization's name
etched on the wall panel.
Qualifying
Service Organizations
Service
clubs, veteran's organizations, or other various groups that have national
or state recognition or affiliations are allowed to contribute.
Other groups will be reviewed by the Veterans Memorial Board on a case by

lost his/her life.
Each

will be evaluated by staff and the Veterans Memorial Board to verify that
the organization meets the necessary criteria. Once accepted,
information will be communicated back t o the applicant and final
processing will take place art that time. Please allow four to six
weeks for the works to be completed on the wall, once the final
application has been accepted. If an application request has been
rejected, there is an appeal process that can be followed for further
consideration by Peoria City Council.
