Adaptive Recreation Program

Our Mission... To provide a continuum of leisure opportunities and related services which are designed to enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.

Our Philosophy... The Adaptive Recreation Program recognizes that meaningful leisure activities can have a positive and often profound impact on the lives of persons with disabilities. Therefore, we are committed to promoting and providing a wide range of both integrated and specialized activities.

To better determine and plan for future needs, an ongoing dialogue between staff and individuals with disabilities and their family members is encouraged.

PARTICIPATION POLICIES

In order to provide a safe and fun environment for everyone, it is important that these guidelines be followed when participating in the various programs.

Appropriate Social Behavior...
Participants will refrain from behavior which would negatively impact the program (hitting, kicking, inappropriate language, refusing to stay with the group, etc.).  Repeated incidents can lead to being prohibited from participating in future activities.

Personal Care Needs...
Persons needing assistance with feeding, toileting, or dressing during a program or class are responsible for making arrangements for this assistance.

Emergency Contacts...
It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to ensure that current emergency phone numbers are on file with the Adaptive recreation Program.  This is critical in the event of a medical or behavioral emergency.

DES/DDD FUNDED PROGRAMS

The City of Peoria Adaptive Recreation Program is contracted with the Department of Economic Security Division of Developmental Disabilities to offer a variety of Day Treatment and Training Services and recently expanded to include respite services.  The primary goal of all DD contracted programs is to enhance social and independent living skills through various recreational opportunities through community outings and service projects.  All programs are staffed on a 1:3 staff to participant ratio, so a high level of independence is required.

Saturday R & R
(respite and recreation)
Saturday R & R will be offered monthly and provide a variety of community outings and recreational opportunities.    Participants must use respite hours.  Individuals who participate must have 6 respite hours per day available through DES/DDD. Contact Support Coordinator to generate authorization for the City of Peoria. Program meets at the Peoria Community Center.  Space is limited - so register early! For the latest schedule, click here.
