Sweeper Services
Street sweeping services are performed for three primary purposes:
1) To reduce airborne dust and particulate matter (PM-10) generated by heavy traffic, track-out on dirt roads and parking lots, and construction related activities;
2) To clear dirt and debris which may be carried along curb and gutter lines into the City's Stormwater System; and
3) Aesthetics.
The City of Peoria has six (6) sweepers that are PM-10 Certified. One (1) sweeper is used as a backup to ensure that schedules can be maintained even if one of the regular sweepers needs to be serviced or repaired.
Three (3) Equipment Operators sweep the residential and collector (neighborhood) streets throughout the City. These routes are repeated approximately every five (5) weeks.
Residential sweeping begins at 6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday.
An operator is assigned to maintain areas
designated as “PM-10” (dust control) routes, a “Downtown Peoria” route, and special sweep requests.
PM-10 routes may be modified as construction, weather, and other factors influence the amount of dirt and debris that is tracked or washed onto city streets.
PM-10 routes are completed every ten (10) days. Special sweeps may be needed following an accident, spill or road construction to clear debris and ensure safe passage.
The Downtown Peoria route is maintained in an effort to preserve Peoria’s historical district as a source of pride for all our residents.
