The Peoria Crime Free Multi-Housing Program
is a free program designed to help owners and managers of rental and mobile housing properties keep drugs and other illegal activity off their properties. The purpose of this program is not to SERVE the landlords, but to EDUCATE them and their residents to improve the livability of the neighborhoods by reducing crime.
This program is honest and direct, it is solution oriented, and is designed to be easy and very effective in reducing crime on rental properties. It has three key elements that will ensure the crime prevention goal:
Phase 1: Staff Training---A one day seminar training the owner and key property employees to become more effective in reducing criminal activity. We will focus on the program requirements, applicant screening, CPTED evaluations, auto theft prevention, working with the police, court/ eviction procedures, gangs/ drug traffic recognition, and fire and life safety preventions. The seminar attendance is required by key staff every two years and phase 1 certification is transferable to other cities.
Phase 2: Premises Security Assessments---A security evaluation inspection is performed by the Peoria Police Department to ensure property meets minimum security standards.
Phase 3: Hosting a Community Event---Training the residents to be the eyes and ears for the community by using Neighborhood Watch concepts. At the completion of all three phases, the property will be granted permission the use of the Crime Free Housing Signs stating they have joined the program. The property will be granted use of the program logo for marketing purposes. The property will be audited annually for compliance in order to grant renewal certificate.
