The Peoria Police Department Law

A Citizen's Academy student practices defense tacticsThe Peoria Police Department continues with it’s very popular Citizen’s Police Academy. During this twelve-week course, citizens learn how the various functions within the Police Department operate. The instruction is comprehensive, and allows for hands-on interaction for participants in many of the topics. Some of the topics covered during this course include Gang Awareness, Narcotics Investigation, D.U.I. Investigation, Use of Force and the Firearms Training Simulator.

The next police citizen’s academy session is scheduled for September 9, 2008. The academy experience promises to give participants an exciting “hands-on” behind the scene look at the field of law enforcement. Hosted in the new Public Safety Administration Building located at 8351 W. Cinnabar Avenue, Peoria, Arizona. This program will meet every Tuesday evening between 6:30 and 9:30PM through December 9, 2008.

The purpose of the academy is to promote the Community Oriented Policing philosophy through the exchange of information between citizens and law enforcement officials. Along the way, participants will experience what it is like to gather evidence, interview suspects and witnesses, book a prisoner into jail, use a radar gun, and many other law enforcement tasks. Participants will learn what it takes to become a police officer, from the hiring process to the police academy experience, from using a firearms training simulator to executing a high-risk vehicle stop.

Citizen's Academy students practice proper handgun techniquesWhether you are interested in law enforcement as a career, or you want to learn more about your local police department, or just want the experience of a lifetime, the Peoria Police Department ‘s Citizen’s Academy is for you!
