Project Description

The purpose of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant is to assist entities in creating and implementing strategies to reduce fossil fuel emissions, reduce total energy use, and improve energy efficiency in the building and transportation sector. An energy plan has been submitted to the U.S. Department of Energy. The City must receive plan approval prior to implementation.
The city of Peoria has identified a variety of energy efficiency, conservation and sustainability projects to fund.
- Wind turbine to power the fire station at Lake Pleasant
- Purchase software that will manage the power usage of city computers
- Installation of high efficiency energy lights (LED) in city facilities and street lights
- Install water heater timers on all city water heaters
- Sustainability training and certification
- Leadership in Energy and Environmental Standards (LEED) training and certification
- Place energy efficient fixtures in the Public Housing Administration Building
