When do the pools open for the public?
Sunrise Pool opening day is Saturday, May 22. Centennial Pool opening day is Monday, May 24; and Peoria Pool opening day is Monday, May 24 (Peoria Pool opens for weekend open swim on June 5).
When do swim lessons begin?
Evening spring swim lessons are currently being offered at Sunrise Pool and Centennial Pool. Morning and evening summer swim lessons begin Monday, May 24 at Sunrise Pool, Centennial Pool, and Peoria Pool.
Are you hiring?
Yes, we are hiring a few positions this season. All positions require Red Cross certifications and must go through the City of Peoria application process. Please view the Employment page for further information.
How long are swim lessons?
Each session of swim lessons is Monday-Thursday for two weeks. If available, lessons cancelled due to a home swim meet, holiday, or weather will be made up on the following Friday. Following the eight days of instruction, each participant will receive a free open swim pass good at any Peoria pool.
What level do I register my child in?
If your child took lessons last summer, we strongly recommend registering them in the same level as a refresher. For more assistance regarding level placement, please view our swim lesson descriptions and level placement information.
What if the class I want is full?
Many of our classes fill up quickly. If you are not able to find another time or pool that works for you, please add yourself to the waitlist and we will try to accommodate you. If there is space in the pool, we will often open new classes up based on demand.
When does swim team start?
Swim team officially starts Monday, May 24. Registration begins online for residents Wednesday, May 5 at 6:00am and Thursday, May 6 for non-residents and phone registrations. Spots fill quickly, so be sure to register early.
What is the swim team fundraiser this year?
There is no swim team fundraiser this year. The registration fees ($80/residents, $140/non-residents) are the only mandatory fees for swim team.
What if I can't afford swim lessons and/or swim team, but really want my child to learn to swim?
Thanks to Southwest Ambulance and the City of Peoria, we offer several free swim lessons to our community. These beginning lessons are at Peoria Pool during the summer sessions. Check the schedule for specific classes. In addition, the City of Peoria has a youth scholarship program which is available for those in need. How much is open swim?
Open swim is $1.50 for adults (17 and older); $.50 for children (2-16) and free for those under 2. Fees are collected at the front desk at the pools, or you can save money by purchasing a punch card or seasonal pass. Punch cards are $20, have $21 worth of punches on them, and can be purchased at the pools. Seasonal passes are $20 for individuals (registration code 56239) and $60 (registration code 56240) for a family of 6. Passes are good at all three pools for the entire 2010 season.
Is there lap swimming available?
Yes, lap swim is available at all three pools during open swim hours. In addition, one lane will be open at Centennial and Peoria pool during swim lesson times for lap swim. Make sure to check the pool calendar or call ahead to confirm dates and times.
Do any of the pools have an indoor workout facility?
The pools do not have an indoor workout facility. The City of Peoria does have a state of the art Recreation Center, Rio Vista, located at 8866 N. Thunderbird Rd.
