| The
City of Peoria Communications and Public Affairs Department
|
| The
Communications and Public Affairs Department is the city’s
liaison with the local news media, operates Peoria’s government
Channel 11 (available to Cox and Qwest cable television customers),
and publishes Peoria
FOCUS, newsletters, and brochures in order to
help keep Peoria’s citizens informed about their government.

Another way the department helps Peoria’s
citizens get connected with their government is through the Peoria
Leadership Institute, a citizen’s academy offered through the city’s
University of Peoria program. Peoria Leadership Institute offers
residents who are interested in learning Peoria Leadership Institute
offers an in-depth look at all operations of city government.

Peoria Leadership Institute participants learn about the city’s governmental structure, its
budget and finances, engineering, public works, utility, police, fire
operations, and more through interactive discussions with senior
management staff.
Additionally, the Department of Communications
and Public Affairs is the
primary support for the Peoria Arts Commission and is also responsible
for overseeing Peoria’s Sister City relationship with the Borough of
Ards, Northern Ireland.
