Behavior and
Conduct in the Library
Purpose:
To maintain a pleasant
atmosphere appropriate for work, study and enjoyment for all library
users and staff, the following policy on behavior in the Peoria
Public Libraries and on the library property has been established.
Library staff will courteously, but firmly, enforce the policy.
Code of Conduct:
These rules have been
adopted for the comfort and protection of all those using the
library materials and services. The following activities are
prohibited:
1. Disruptive
behavior. This includes disorderly conduct, noise or activity,
whether intentional or inadvertent, that interferes with the rights
of others, physical abuse, abusive or threatening language and
misuse of library furnishings. Expulsion from the library and/or
loss of library privileges may result from continued violations.
2. Solicitation
(other than approved by Library Manager or appropriate City
Official).
3. Persons committing
theft, vandalism or other illegal acts are subject to prosecution.
4. Pets other than
official assist dogs for the impaired.
5. Tobacco products.
6. Eating and
drinking, except at meetings or special library programs when so
designated by the sponsor. Water bottles with anti-drip caps are
permitted.
7. Possession, sale
or use of alcoholic beverages or illegal substances on library
property.
8. Using radios,
telephones, tape or CD players at a level that can be heard by other
individuals
9. Skateboarding and
roller skating or roller blading on library property.
If confronted with the
violation of any of these rules, library patrons are encouraged to
inform a staff member immediately. Any staff member involved with
patrons who, because of the severity of their infraction of the
above rules, have been asked to leave the building must complete an
incident report.
