GENERAL PURPOSE
Perform a variety of maintenance
and repair duties, on traffic signal and street light
equipment, respond to traffic signal and street light
problems day or night. Troubleshoot electrical and
equipment problems. On call 24/7 and will be on a
rotating on call duty list.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receive direction from the Street Supervisor. Exercise no
direct supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The
duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of
the various types of work that may be performed. The
omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude
them from the position if the work is similar, related or
a logical assignment to this class.

Patrol an assigned area and identify traffic
related assistance; such as, signing, traffic counts,
striping, street lights and assisting in planning and
construction of traffic signals.

Perform skilled electrical and electronic
traffic signal installation and repair work, troubleshoot
all malfunctions and respond to emergency calls.
·
Make inspections and identify traffic
signals and street light equipment and provide maintenance
and repairs as needed.
·
Operate a computer and associated software
in the field and in the office. Knowledge of radio
equipment for repair and maintenance.
·
Oversee and assist in concrete installation
for traffic signal placement. Identify problems,
maintain, and reprogram signal controllers and all
associated equipment.
·
Replace lamps; install conduit, wire and
cable.
·
Perform daily accountability reports.
·
Perform routine preventative maintenance
(PM’s) on all traffic signal and street light equipment as
assigned.
·
Assist in field inspection of new
installations of traffic signals or street lights
installed or upgraded within the City, as assigned.
·
Assist supervisor in the organization and
scheduling of projects pertaining to traffic control and
other traffic signal or street light problems.
·
Provide locating of underground wire and
fiber optics. Repair conduit, fiber and wiring.
·
Provide adequate traffic control when
necessary.
·
Install traffic counters and download
information to computer.
·
Operate aerial lift truck up to 60 feet.
·
May assist in other sections of the
department as necessary. Perform related duties, as
assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High
School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and two years of
experience in traffic signal and street light maintenance,
repair, and installation. IMSA traffic signal, level II
certification. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an
appropriate, valid Arizona commercial driver's license.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Specialized coursework or training in electronics or a
related field. Knowledge of: State laws related to signal
installations: procedures and standards of traffic signal,
striping and signing: OSHA, State, County and City safety
regulations: Phoenix barricade manual: Traffic laws.
Ability to: Read blue prints; work safely and adhere to
principles of safety when working near traffic and high
voltage lines or other hazardous environments.

Physical Demands
Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up
to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds
