JOB OBJECTIVES
Perform a variety of clerical work in support of the
department to which assigned; and, provide information to
employees and the public following well-established
procedures.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receive supervision from the department head.
Functional or technical supervision may be provided by
technical, professional, management staff, or
administrative secretary.
Exercise no supervision.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES - May include, but are not
limited to, the following:
Act as receptionist; answer the telephone and wait on
the general public, provide information to employees and
public on department policies and procedures.
Type, proofread, and copy general correspondence and
memos.
File all documents as directed, sort, and distribute
incoming and outgoing correspondence.
Enter and update records on the computer.
Perform related duties, as assigned.
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE - needed to complete position
accountabilities
Knowledge of:
English usage, spelling, grammar, and
punctuation; Modern office practices, procedures,
and computer equipment; Basic record keeping
methods and procedures.
Ability to:
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in
writing; Type at a speed necessary for successful
job performance; Operate office machines and
computer terminal; Maintain departmental filing
system; Understand and carry out oral and written
directions.
Experience and Training:
Any combination of experience and training that would
likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is
qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and
abilities would be:
Experience:
One year general clerical experience.
Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade,
supplemented by clerical course work.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements:
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or
negligible amount of force frequently to move objects;
involves sitting most of the time.
Work Environment:
Position is typically office or administrative work
and is not substantially exposed to adverse
environmental conditions.
License or Certificate:
None.
