GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general direction, lays out,
coordinates, inspects and supervises the work of City
personnel and contractors engaged in the cleaning of City
buildings and facilities; coordinates and schedules the
use of meeting rooms and facilities by City personnel and
community groups and organizations; and performs related
duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a supervisor class responsible
for coordinating and inspecting the work of staff and
contractors performing custodial and minor maintenance and
repairs to the City’s building and facilities. Duties
are carried out independently within a framework of
established policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are intended

Plans, prioritizes, inspects and
supervises the work of the City’s custodial employees
and service contract providers; lays out, inspects and
supervises the work of personnel engaged in the painting
of and making minor repairs to City offices and building
interior. Participates in the budget preparation and
administration; prepares cost estimates for budget
recommendations. Participates in the selection of
personnel for the section; monitors and evaluates assigned
personnel performance; provides or coordinates staff
training; works with employees to correct deficiencies.
Coordinates and schedules the use of City facilities for
meetings and special events; plans and supervises meeting
room and facility setups for use by City departments and
outside groups; calculates fees for the use of meeting
rooms and facilities; sets up and operates audio-visual
equipment for meetings and special events at City
buildings and facilities. Responds to staff and outside
groups’ complaints and inquiries regarding City
buildings and facilities. Coordinates the section’s
activities with other sections and divisions. Inspects and
evaluates work being performed; identifies problem areas
and directs remedial action to be taken. Responsible for
carrying out the City’s safety program for the section;
ensures subordinates follow safety practices in work
methods and procedures; enforces proper safety procedures
while working in dangerous situations; educates employees
on rules, regulations, codes, safe work habits and
potential hazards presented by their work environment.
Researches new methods, techniques and equipment and
recommends their application. Reads, interprets and works
from rough sketches, diagrams and blueprints. Requisitions
supplies, materials and tools; issues and controls
supplies and equipment. Prepares and maintains a variety
of records, logs and reports. Updates written manuals and
instructions.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Methods, practices, techniques, tools
and equipment used in the cleaning and making of minor
repairs to buildings and facilities; relevant local,
state and federal laws, regulations and guidelines;
principles and practices of effective employee
supervision, including training, work evaluation and
discipline; safety methods and regulations pertaining to
the work; personal computer applications related to the
work; effective customer service methods and practices.
Ability to:
Plan, organize, supervise, assign,
inspect and evaluate the work of others; motivate and
evaluate staff and provide for their training and
development; develop and implement work standards;
prepare clear and concise records, reports and other
written materials; exercise independent judgment and
initiative within established guidelines; establish and
maintain effective relationships with those encountered
in the course of the work; properly and safely operate
motorized vehicles and equipment.
Training and Experience:
A typical way of obtaining the
knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is
graduation from high school, or G.E.D. equivalent; and
four years of journey-level experience in the cleaning
and maintenance of buildings and facilities; or an
equivalent combination of training and experience.

A valid Arizona driver’s license.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this
class, an employee is regularly required to use hands to

controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee
frequently is required to stand and talk or hear; walk;
sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
The employee must regularly lift
and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100
pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job
include close vision, distance vision, color vision,
peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to
focus vision.

class, an employee is regularly required to use written
and oral communication skills; read and interpret data,
information and documents; analyze and solve problems;
use shop math; observe and interpret situations; learn
