JOB OBJECTIVES
Supervise and direct the clerical, record keeping, and
other support functions of the Municipal Court; and,
provide responsible staff assistance to the Municipal
Court Judge.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receive direction from the Municipal
Court Judge and technical supervision from the Deputy City
Manager. Exercise direct supervision over clerical
personnel.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES - May include, but are not
limited to, the following:
Plan, assign, and supervise the work of
the Court’s clerical staff; schedule work flow, review
work upon completion for conformance to court
requirements. Serve as the calendar clerk for the Court.
Respond to complaints and requests for information
regarding laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Research, analyze, and develop court procedures in
accordance with new laws and regulations. Provide
administrative support to the Municipal Court Judge.
Participate in budget preparation and administration;
prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit
justifications for needed supplies; monitor and control
expenditures. Select, train, motivate, and evaluate
personnel; establish and monitor employee performance
objectives; prepare and present employee performance
reviews; provide or coordinate staff training; work with
employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline
procedures. Research and prepare information for reports;
prepare and distribute subpoenas, warrants, legal
documents, and summons; request warrants when necessary.
Serves as the Probation Officer; maintain paperwork and
records of probationers; track persons not complying with
probation agreements. Serve as Civil Traffic Hearing
Officer; accept fines and issue receipts. Set up files,
record keeping systems, and work procedures. Perform
related duties, as assigned.
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE - needed to complete position

Knowledge of:
Basic law as it applies to the
Municipal Court. Principles and techniques of budget
development and administration. Modern office
procedures, equipment, and record filing systems.
Advanced record keeping, bookkeeping, and report writing
techniques. English usage, spelling, and punctuation.
Principles and practices of supervision, training, and
personnel management.
Ability to:
Plan, assign, and supervise the work
of assigned staff. Develop effective work methods and
procedures. Prepare and maintain records. Supervise,
train, and evaluate assigned personnel. Prepare and
administer a budget. Communicate clearly and concisely,
both orally and in writing.
Experience and Training:
Any combination of experience and
training that would likely provide the required knowledge
and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the
knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Three years of responsible office and
clerical experience, including some experience working
in a legal office or in support of the court and some
lead or supervisory experience.
Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the
twelfth grade. Additional specialized clerical training
is desirable.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements:
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force
occasionally and/or negligible amount of force
frequently to move objects; involves sitting most of the
time.
Work Environment:
Position is typically office or
administrative work and is not substantially exposed to
adverse environmental conditions.
