Senior Security Guard

 

GENERAL PURPOSE  

The fundamental reason the Municipal Court Security Guard, lead position exists is to provide direct supervision of the ongoing daily activities and operation of the Security Guard/Screen positions assigned to the Municipal Court.  This classification does supervise and performs the day-today work activities related to providing security for the Municipal Court facilities and premises.  

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED 

Receive general supervision from the Court Administrator or Judicial Assistant Supervisors in the absence of the Court Administrator. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

·         Plans, organizes and directs the work of Security Guards/Screeners.

·         Prepares work schedules, vacations schedules and assignments.

·         Monitors various fire and security alarm systems and advice facilities of needed repairs.

·         Observes, trains, mentors, coaches and supervises the Security Guards/Screeners.

·         Responds to medical emergencies.

·         Provides first responder first aid, CPR, and AED in medical emergencies.

·         Writes and prepares incident reports and other reports as required.

·         Implements emergency procedures when appropriate or as directed.

·         Informs supervisory personnel of required security supplies, materials, and equipment.

·         Forwards employee and citizen complaints regarding security services to Court Administrator for investigation and resolution.

·         Handles and resolves difficult and critical security problems.  Ensures appropriate management is advised of all issues and problems.

·         Responsible for timely and accurate completion of leave request and time sheets.

·         Responsible for ensuring that all Security Guards/Screeners comply with COJET requirements and prepare COJET reports as required.

·         Communicates, both orally and in writing, with staff to provide updates and information.

·         Handles and resolves difficult and critical security problems.  Ensures appropriate management is advised of all issues and problems.

·         Responsible for Security Guards/Screeners to conduct court patrols inside and outside of the building to observe unusual behavior and to prevent vandalism and unauthorized access to restricted areas.

·         Prepares statistical information for the Court Administrator on an as needed basis.

·         Enforces correction of infractions through verbal warning, expels unruly persons and detains more serious offenders for proper authorities.

·         Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality and seamless customer service.

·         Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with team members, staff and general public.

·         Performs related duties as assigned. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

Requires any combination of training, education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of one year of recent experience as a security guard, police officer, military police officer or customer-intensive public service experience.  Minimum of one year of recent experience as a security guard, police officer or military police officer and/or a minimum of six months lead or supervisor experience.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    High school diploma/G.E.D. supplemented by specialized clerical course work and two years of responsible clerical experience.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

Ability to provide supervision over employees. Knowledge of security techniques and practices associated with court building security issues.  Knowledge of procedures and rules for courtroom practices, procedures, operation, and security equipment maintenance. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and deal with the adverse, critical and confrontational situations in a stressful environment.  Ensure security and decorum is provided to the public.  Interpret City policies, procedures and regulations.  Interact with people who are confused, angry and/or openly hostile to ensure security and decorum.  Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Judges, Prosecutors, Attorneys and coworkers.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.  

Mental Demands 

While performing the duties of this classification, the incumbent is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve complex problems; use math and mathematical skills, perform detailed work under changing, intensive deadlines, and apply constant attention to detail and constant interruptions; and interact with officials and the public.
