Security
Guard
GENERAL PURPOSE
Maintains general municipal facility security and
safety; operates metal detectors and x-ray screening
machines to detected hazardous objects; controls
employee bypass entrances and prevents unauthorized
access to restricted areas; interacts with the general
public, other security forces, peace officers, and
employees, and provides customer service as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receive general
supervision from the Court Administrator, Judicial
Assistant Supervisors, or other supervisory staff.
Exercises no supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
·
Operates metal detectors and x-ray
screening machines to detect concealed weapons and
hazardous objects.
·
Inspects identification badges to control
employee bypass entrances and prevents unauthorized
access to restricted areas.
·
Monitors various fire and security alarm
systems and advice facilities of needed repairs.
·
Performs walking and mobile patrols of
designated area.
·
Responds to medical emergencies.
·
Provides first responder first aid, CPR,
and AED in medical emergencies.
·
Writes and prepares incident reports and
other reports as required.
·
Implements emergency procedures when
appropriate or as directed.
·
Informs supervisory personnel of required
security supplies, materials, and equipment.
·
Forwards employee and citizen complaints
regarding security services to local supervisory
personnel for investigation and resolution.
·
May be required to serve as a lead
officer at a post or station, and qualified to carry and
use chemical agents, restraints, batons, and other
non-lethal defensive weapons.
·
Performs related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED
QUALIFICATIONS
Requires any combination of training,
education and experience equivalent to a high school
diploma or GED and a minimum of one year of recent
experience as a security guard, police officer, military
police officer or customer-intensive public service
experience.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of security techniques and practices
associated with municipal building security issues to in
court buildings. Knowledge of procedures and rules for
courtroom practices, procedures, operation, and security
equipment maintenance. Demonstrate the ability to work
independently and deal with the adverse, critical and
confrontational situations in a stressful environment.
Ensure security and decorum is provided to the public.
Interpret City policies, procedures and regulations.
Interact with people who are confused, angry and/or
openly hostile to ensure security and decorum.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships
with Judges, Prosecutors, Attorneys, City staff and
coworkers.

Physical Demands
Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and physical

performing the duties of this job, the employee is
regularly required to sit; talk or hear, both in person
and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle, feel
objects or office equipment; and to reach with hands and
arms and to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally
and/or negligible amount of force frequently to move
objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job
include close vision, color vision, and the ability to
adjust focus.
Mental Demands
While
performing the duties of this class, the incumbent is
regularly required to use written and oral communication
skills; read and interpret data, information and
documents; analyze and solve complex problems; use math
and mathematical skills, perform detailed work under
changing, intensive deadlines, and apply constant
attention to detail and constant interruptions; and
interact with officials and the public.
