Recreation Specialist
GENERAL PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to assist in the planning,
implementation and coordination of a wide variety of
recreation activities and or programs.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Incumbents in this position will receive general supervision
from Recreation Programmer and Recreation Coordinator.
Exercise lead/functional supervision over program Aides and
part-time staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations

Participates in the selection, training, motivation and
evaluation of Recreation Aides and part-time staff
Assists with purchasing equipment and supplies for
assigned program
Enhances each individuals personal growth by providing a
wide range of experiences
Completes all paperwork necessary for assigned programs
Maintains awareness of new developments pertaining to
assigned programs
Maintains assigned facility in a safe, clean and orderly
manner
Provides direction and consistent feedback to program
staff; documents concerns or problems
Ensures safety of participants and staff
Assists with other recreation programs as requested
Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in
writing
Uses a personal computer and basic computer programs,
i.e., word, excel
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by
specialized college level course work and two years
experience in the recreation field. Valid Arizona Drivers
License; possession of CPR and First Aid cards is required.
Ability to pass a Class I fingerprint clearance is required.
Incumbent must have the ability to present proof of T.B.
test. Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and general
computer skills is required.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree from an accredited college or university
with major course work in recreation is desired. Extensive
knowledge of basic skills to operate a recreation facility
and/or program is desired. Record keeping procedures. Safety
issues associated with participants and staff. Experience
with Special Olympics, sports tournament and/or special
populations are highly desirable.
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Client Intervention Training (CIT) certification within 60
days of hire when working with individuals with disabilities
is required.

Physical Demands
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and 20
pounds of force frequently, and or up to 10 pounds of force
constantly to move objects.
