Mechanic Assistant
GENERAL PURPOSE
Perform preventive maintenance and repair of a wide variety
of equipment including mowers and generators.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is an entry-level job classification in the Mechanic
series.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from supervisory or management
staff. Receives technical and functional supervision from
the higher level maintenance staff. Exercises no
supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform preventive maintenance on a variety of generators,
blowers, golf carts, and electric mowers
Accurately determine mechanical repair needs
Remove and replace wheels, tires and tubes; rotate tires
to insure proper wear, as required
Grease and lubricate equipment; service batteries and
other parts
Inspect equipment and vehicles for loose or worn parts,
hydraulic leaks and exhaust leaks; bring needed repairs to
the attention of appropriate personnel
Steam cleans equipment and related mechanical parts
Assist vehicle maintenance personnel on complex tasks or
heavy bulk assignments; perform minor repairs/replacement of
parts on automotive equipment, and minor machine shop duties
under direct supervision
Pick up and deliver equipment where needed
Operate hoist and forklift trucks for loading and
unloading equipment
Maintain a variety of shop and repair records
Perform related duties, as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED. Possession of, or the ability to
obtain a valid Arizona commercial drivers license, Class
B within 6 months from the date of hire. Possession of 2
A.S.E. certificates or the ability to obtain within one (1)
year after date of hire. A minimum of one (1) year
experience in the repair or replacement of tires, automotive
or truck maintenance.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of two (2) years experience in the
repair/replacement of heavy truck tires. A minimum of two
(2) years of experience in preventive maintenance and
maintenance in automotive and heavy truck. Additional
training/courses in related fields.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this class, employees will
exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in
excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of
20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
