Groundskeeper
GENERAL PURPOSE
Perform a variety of unskilled and limited semi-skilled
tasks in the maintenance and repair of athletic fields,
facilities, and grounds.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receive general supervision from Department Supervisory
and Management personnel. Receive technical or functional
supervision from higher level field maintenance staff.
Exercise no supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The
duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of
the various types of work that may be performed. The

them from the position if the work is similar, related or
a logical assignment to this class.

Performs unskilled and limited semi-skilled tasks in a
variety of maintenance activities

Operates vehicles and small engine equipment in a safe
and effective manner; utilizes a variety of hand and
power tools, mechanical equipment, and other equipment
required for work in athletic fields, grounds, and
facility maintenance in a safe and efficient manner

Works safely and adheres to principles of safety when
working near mechanical and motorized equipment,
players, co-workers, public, or in other environments
-
Properly records in written form daily work order system
-
Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and
vehicles
-
Assists higher level maintenance staff as assigned and
in preparation and maintenance of athletic fields and
related facilities; cleans restrooms and picks up litter
around athletic fields, buildings, and grounds in
general

Opens,
closes and secures facilities as instructed; reports
unlawful acts or dangerous activities to the Police
Department immediately

Mows, weeds, and trims lawns, prunes and plants trees,
shrubs, and flowers. Rakes leaves and cleans walks,
fields, and other facilities

Performs difficult manual labor, including lifting heavy
weights, stooping, bending, digging, kneeling, and
twisting
-
Establishes and maintains effective working
relationships with those contacted in the course of work
-
Applies herbicide from back pack sprayers holding eight
gallons or less
-
Performs related duties, as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High
School Diploma or equivalent and one year experience in
general landscape and/or maintenance. Formal or informal
education or training which ensures the ability to read
and write at a level necessary for successful job
performance. Some positions may require the possession
of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Arizona
driver’s license.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Additional experience in general landscape and/or
maintenance; knowledge of: methods, techniques, and
procedures related to maintenance of athletic fields,
grounds, and facilities; Hazards associated with the work
and proper safety precautions; purposes and uses of a
variety of vehicles, equipment, power, and hand tools,
including small engine equipment.

Physical Demands
While
performing the duties of this class, employees are
regularly required to sit; talk or hear; use hands
repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate equipment
and to reach with hands and arms. Employees are required
to walk, kneel, stoop, climb and stand and to exert up to
100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force
frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to
move objects. Specific vision abilities required by this
job include close vision, use of both eyes, ability to
adjust focus and to distinguish basic colors and/or
shades.
Mental
Demands
While
performing the duties of this class, employees regularly
are required to use oral communication skills; read and
interpret data, analyze and solve problems; interact with
the general public, public agencies, employees and others
who may be encountered during the course of work.
WORK
ENVIRONMENT
The
work environment characteristics described here are
representative of those an employee encounters while
performing the essential functions of this class.
The
employee spends substantial time outdoors. Position is
subject to hazards: Proximity to moving mechanical parts,
electrical current, exposure to chemicals, etc. Position
is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors,
dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
