Custodian
GENERAL PURPOSE
Maintain and clean assigned City buildings and facilities,
including outdoor areas as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receive general supervision from the Facilities Maintenance
Supervisor.
Technical and functional supervision may be received from a
Senior Custodian. Exercise no supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations
of the various types of work that may be performed.

exclude them from the position if the work is similar,
related or a logical assignment to this class.
Performs general floor maintenance and upkeep
Adheres to schedules for periodic cleaning of assigned
buildings and facilities.
Dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork, fixtures, and
equipment
Washes windows and walls
Cleans desk, tables, and counter tops
Empties and cleans waste receptacles
Cleans and disinfects rest rooms; replenishes and
maintains rest room supplies
Moves and arranges furniture and equipment; set up rooms
for special meetings or events. Lock and unlock doors; open
and close City buildings
Replaces lights and adjusts shades and blinds
Cleans outside areas near building; pick up paper and
other debris; maintains landscape areas on a limited basis,
including watering as assigned
Regulates ventilation and temperature
Maintains custodial supplies and equipment. Stocks
inventory of maintenance materials and supplies; report the
need for repairs
Performs a variety of errands, including picking up and
delivering materials and supplies.
Assists individuals needing special meeting room setups
Works independently in the absence of supervision
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships
with supervisors, peers, other City employees and the public
who may be encountered during the course of work
Performs related duties, as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Satisfactory
completion of background checks conducted by the Arizona
Criminal Justice Information System
and the City of Peoria's Chief of Police and successful
completion of a limited polygraph exam. A valid Arizona
Drivers license
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Six (6) months experience dealing with the public in a
customer service field; Six (6) months general experience in
custodial work; knowledge of the methods,
materials, tools, and equipment used in custodial work and
safe work practices; experience with meeting room setup.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this class, employees
occasionally are required to exert up to 100 pounds of
force, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently,
and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. Employees
are required to walk, talk or hear, use hands repetitively
to finger, handle, feel or operate equipment and/or tools;
and to reach with hands or arms. Employees are required to
walk, kneel, stoop, climb and stand. Specific vision
abilities required by this job include close vision, use of
both eyes,
ability to adjust focus and to distinguish basic colors
and/or shades.
Mental Demands
While performing the duties of this class, employees are
required to use oral communication skills; read
and interpret data; analyze and solve problems; interact
with the general public, employees and others
who may be encountered during the course of work.
