Infrastructure Technician
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general direction, performs difficult and advanced
technical work in the installation and troubleshooting of
new, existing and replacement voice and data cabling. Plans
for, oversees, maintains and operates complex
uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. Provides
technical oversight to external telecommunication and UPS
service contractors and vendors. Works closely with
Technical Support and Network Engineering groups to support
the network infrastructure and telecommunications cabling.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Exercises no supervision. Reports to the IT Technical
Support Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations
of the various types of work that may be performed. The
omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude
them from the position if the work is similar, related or a
logical assignment to this class.
• Installs, maintains and troubleshoots intra or
inter-building Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) or fiber-optic
cables from IDF to wiring closets. Terminates with RJ-45, ST
or SC type connectors. Provides fiber patch cords, maintains
and troubleshoots outside plant inter building fiber-optic
cables.
• Monitors condition of MDF/IDF closets at all City
facilities to ensure closets are maintained in accordance
with I.T. standards and industry best practices for
cable/wire management, security and environment.
• Provides diagnostic and repair work to network cables
using a variety of technical equipment.
• Plans for, installs, maintains and relocates
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) hardware. Writes,
maintains and tests network connectivity and
decommissioning.
• Installs and repairs telephony related equipment,
interconnecting devices and multiple equivalent technology
across wiring plant, hardware, network platforms. Installs
and repairs video multiplexers, cabling, amplifiers,
splitters, connectors, and connections.
• Provides technical oversight to external telecommunication
and UPS service contractors and vendors.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school or equivalent and six months to one year of
technical study or training past the high school
equivalency. Three years of progressively responsible
professional in data center, MDF, IDF cabling design, best
practices and standards. Additionally must have extensive
experience in cable types, installations, terminations and
maintenance. A valid Arizona Driver’s license and the
ability to maintain insurability under the City’s Vehicle
Insurance Program. Satisfactory completion of background
checks conducted by the Arizona Criminal Justice Information
System and the City of Peoria’s Chief of Police.
DESIRED
QUALIFICATIONS
Associates Degree in related field. Desired experience in
identification of cabling needs, installation methods and
testing by electronic means. A certification in
infrastructure cabling from a nationally-recognized provider
(AMP, Belkin, CommScope, etc…) is desired. Preparation of
test documents, scopes of work, testing plans and change
control is desirable.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this class, employees are
regularly required to sit; talk and hear, in person and by
telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or
operate computers and other standard office equipment; and
reach with hands or arms. Employees are frequently required
to walk and stand and frequently to lift up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close
vision, ability to adjust focus and ability to distinguish
basic colors and/or shades.

regularly required to use oral and written communication
skills; read and interpret data, information and documents;
analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical
reasoning; learn and apply new skills or information;
perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks;

differing team roles and assignments on a regular basis; and
interact with the Mayor, members of City Council, all levels
of City managers, customers (end users), employees, vendors,
consultants and others encountered in the course of work.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee works in interior areas of City
buildings/facilities, including basements, office areas,
warehouses and mechanical areas. May be exposed to extreme
seasonal temperatures, physical and respiratory hazards. May
