Senior Librarian

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to
supervise library staff, collections, and activities. This
is accomplished by supervising staff, supervising the
purchase of library collection materials, providing quality
customer service, and providing programs to the community.

Supervises the purchase of library
materials by determining purchasing needs, preparing and
monitoring materials and budget reports for each
division, and developing and implementing policies and
procedures for collection development. |

by assisting in the selection of appropriate resources,
providing instruction on the use of the library, problem
solving, communicating effectively, evaluating the use
of library materials, and conducting reference
interviews to determine customer needs. |

supervising daily tasks and activities, establishing
procedures and guidelines, evaluating assigned services,
coaching for performance improvement and recommending
personnel actions. |

Provides library programming to the
community by supervising the planning and implementation
of age appropriate programs, scheduling performances,
assessing program success by survey, and overseeing
scheduling of staff and events. |

REQUIREMENTS:

Formal Education |
Work requires specialized knowledge
in a professional or technical field. Work requires
professional level of knowledge of a discipline
equivalent to that which is acquired in a Masters
degree-level of study. |

Experience |
Over three years up to and
including five years experience. |
|
Supervision |
Work requires functioning as a lead
worker performing essentially the same work as those
directed, and includes overseeing work quality,
training, instructing, and scheduling work. |
|
Human Collaboration Skills |
Decisions regarding implementation
of policies may be made. Contact may involve support of
controversial positions or the negotiation of sensitive
issues or important presentations. Contacts may involve
stressful, negative interactions with the public
requiring high levels of tact and the ability to respond
to aggressive interpersonal interactions. |

Freedom to Act |
The employee normally performs the
duty assignment according to his or her own judgment,
requesting supervisory assistance only when necessary.
Special projects are managed with little oversight and
assignments may be reviewed upon completion. Performance
reviewed periodically. |
|
Technical Skills |
Skilled: Work requires a
comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field
with use of analytical judgment and decision-making
abilities appropriate to the work environment of the
organization. |

Budget Responsibility |
Position has limited fiscal
responsibility. May assist in the collection of data in
support of recommendations for departmental budget
allocations. May monitor division or program/project
level budget and expenditures. |

Reading |
Advanced - Ability to read
literature, books, reviews, scientific or technical
journals, abstracts, financial reports, and/or legal
documents. Ordinarily, such education is obtained at
the college level or above. |

Math |
Intermediate - Ability to deal with
system of real numbers; practical application of
fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and
measurement. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in
high school up to college. |

Writing |
Advanced - Ability to write
editorials, journals, speeches, manuals, or critiques.
Ordinarily, such education is obtained in at the college
level or above. |
