Senior Assistant City Prosecutor
FLSA Status: Exempt
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to
supervise the activities of the criminal unit, perform
professional and administrative level work including legal
research, investigation, charging, litigation, motions,
pleadings, bench and jury trials, preparation of ordinances,
resolution, advising staff on routine matters, and
activities in conjunction with the prosecution of
misdemeanor criminal cases, as well as provide victim
assistance and comply with victim right throughout all
stages of criminal judicial process. This is accomplished by
acting as legal advisor, developing and supervising assigned
staff, preparing and prosecuting cases, and managing
allocated budget.

Acts as legal advisor by attending
client meetings and advising on criminal justice related
issues, providing information to public officials,
reviewing legislation and case law to determine impact
on criminal prosecution and law enforcement activities,
reviewing adopted procedure and laws, preparing legal
opinions, memoranda, and data, providing training to
public officials, redacting police records, and
representing the police department during interagency
meetings. |

receiving, reviewing, and analyzing cases for trail,
determining witnesses and evidence, interviewing
witnesses and victims, conferring with law enforcement
officials, preparing witnesses for oral argument and
testimony, conducting legal research on potential and
actual issues, determining appropriate trial techniques,
conducing opening and closing arguments, questioning and
cross examining witnesses and defendants, arguing
release conditions, and recommending sentences. |

supervising daily tasks and activities, establishing
procedures and guidelines, evaluating assigned services,
coaching for performance improvement and recommending
personnel actions. |

presenting proposals for approval, authorizing payments
and monitoring expenditures for recommended adjustments. |
JOB
REQUIREMENTS:

Formal Education |
Work requires specialized knowledge
in a professional or technical field. Work requires
professional level of knowledge of a discipline
equivalent to that which is acquired in a Masters or
Doctorate degree-level of study. |

Experience |
Over five years up to and including
seven years experience. |
|
Supervision |
Work requires supervising and
monitoring performance for a regular group of employees
or division within a department including providing
input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work
objectives/ effectiveness, performance evaluations, and
realigning work as needed. A first line supervisor
typically performs these functions. |
|
Human Collaboration Skills |
Final decisions regarding policy
development and implementation are made and/or
recommended. Interaction with others outside the
organization requires exercising participative
management skills that support team efforts and quality
processes. |
|
Freedom to Act |
The employee normally performs the
duty assignment according to his or her own judgment,
requesting supervisory assistance only when necessary.
Special projects are managed with little oversight and
assignments may be reviewed upon completion. Performance
reviewed periodically. |

skills and knowledge in approaches and systems, which
affect the design and implementation of major programs
and/or processes organization-wide. Independent judgment
and decision-making abilities are necessary to apply

decisions within the department. May be responsible for
the billing, collection and/or accounting of funds.

documents. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in at
