Title: Fleet Supervisor

 FLSA Status: Exempt

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this position is to complete assignments which support the operation, maintenance and repair of the automotive and equipment fleet.  This is accomplished by evaluating repairs; maintaining equipment; managing purchases of vehicles, tools and equipment; monitoring schedules and work flow; and coordinating warranty and contracted repairs.   Other duties include participating on committees, completing reports and disposing of equipment.

Manages vehicle, tool and equipment purchases by analyzing replacement and equipment criteria and requests, assessing needs, working with departments and vendors, assisting with budget information, assisting with plans and specifications, preparing purchasing requests, and reviewing and inspecting items delivered.

Manages vehicle make-ready and disposal by receiving and inspecting new vehicles and equipment, overseeing checklists, coordinating information with departments, overseeing installation of special equipment, coordinating with vendors, identifying auction vehicles, coordinating the out of service process, and overseeing removal.

Assists with long range and daily operations by implementing new services, work methods, policies and procedures, providing feedback to mechanics, evaluating costs, communicating with departments and outside personnel on fleet standards, researching new technologies, ensuring outside agency compliance, implementing safety policies and procedures, and providing customer feedback.

Completes committee assignments by serving on committees, completing special committee assignments, evaluating work, creating goals and objectives, and participating in the hiring process.

JOB REQUIREMENTS 

-Description of Minimum Job Requirements-

Formal Education

Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with a two year associate's degree, diploma or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school.  Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.

Experience

Over three years up to and including five years experience.

Supervision

Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees or division within a department including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/ effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed.  A first line supervisor typically performs these functions.

Human Collaboration Skills

Work may require providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies.  Contacts may require the consideration of different points of view to reach agreement.  Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas.

Freedom to Act

The employee normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies.  There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties.  Performance reviewed periodically.

Technical Skills

Skilled: Work requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization.

Budget Responsibility

Position has moderate fiscal responsibility.  Makes recommendations toward fiscal decisions within the department. May be responsible for the billing, collection and/or accounting of funds.   May be responsible for the handling and balancing of cash.

Reading

Intermediate - Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Math

Intermediate - Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Writing

Intermediate - Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.  Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
