Title: Fleet Manager

 FLSA Status: Exempt

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this position is to manage the operation of the Fleet Division of the Public Works Department and is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of the automotive and equipment fleet.  This is accomplished by establishing goals and objectives, developing policies and procedures for utilization, repair and management of equipment, preparing and monitoring the budget, forecasting staffing, equipment and materials, assigning tasks and schedules, communicating organizational changes, and preparing regular reports.  Other duties include working with other departments, co workers and the general public, reviewing specifications for new equipment, evaluating proposals, researching supplies and equipment, and coordinating activities with other departments.

Prepares and administers the annual budget by forecasting revenues and expenditures, presenting proposals for approval, authorizing payments and monitoring expenditures for recommended adjustments.

Defines replacement strategies by developing equipment and fleet replacement policies, researching purchases, providing regular updates, working with departments and advising of new trends and policies.

Updates policies and procedures by establishing goals and objectives, reviewing current policies, setting guidelines for objectives, reviewing and evaluating work products, methods and procedures, developing work plans, and overseeing computerized maintenance information.

Completes special projects and tasks by preparing specifications and requirements, coordinating activities with other departments, attending meetings and serving on committees and teams, and ensuring department meets goals and objectives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

-Description of Minimum Job Requirements-

Formal Education

Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field.  Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Experience

Over five years up to and including seven years experience.

Supervision

Work requires managing and monitoring work performance of a division including evaluating program/work objectives and effectiveness, establishing broad organizational goals and realigning work and staffing assignments for the department.

Human Collaboration Skills

Recommendations regarding policy development and implementation are made and/or recommended.  Evaluates customer satisfaction, develops cooperative associations, and utilizes resources to continuously improve customer satisfaction.

Freedom to Act

The employee normally performs the duty assignment according to his or her own judgment, requesting supervisory assistance only when necessary. Special projects are managed with little oversight and assignments may be reviewed upon completion. Performance reviewed periodically.

Technical Skills

Skilled: Work requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization.

Budget Responsibility

Position has major fiscal responsibility.  Makes significant contribution to major financial decisions within the department.  Responsible for major financial decisions within the department.  Decisions may influence budget requests and departmental goals and objectives.  Monitors budget plan, and adjusts work activity as necessary.

Reading

Advanced - Ability to read literature, books, reviews, scientific or technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and/or legal documents.  Ordinarily, such education is obtained in at the college level or above. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Math

Intermediate - Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Writing

Advanced - Ability to write editorials, journals, speeches, manuals, or critiques.  Ordinarily, such education is obtained in at the college level or above. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
