Title: Emergency Medical Services Coordinator

 FLSA Status: Exempt

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this position is to plan and implement emergency services programs within the Fire Department, assist in the certification process, and act as liaison to other departments, agencies and the public.  This is accomplished by planning and facilitating continuing education and training, assisting with the development of policies and procedures, completing quality assurance reviews, evaluating equipment needs, and serving on committees.  Other duties include collecting and analyzing data, supporting outreach programs, and interacting with related agencies and facilities.

Promotes EMS activities and programs by observing staff and documenting actions, facilitating training activities, educating staff on procedures and rules, assisting with fire recruit training, participating in the hiring process, and assisting the chief in the development of policies and goals.

Implements quality assurance programs by collecting and analyzing data and reports, entering data, reviewing effectiveness reports and information, collecting data for special studies, and reviewing EMS documentation on delivered care.

Acts as EMS liaison by working with other departments, hospitals and ambulance companies, resolving issues, participating on committees, and assisting in the research and trial of new equipment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

-Description of Minimum Job Requirements-

Formal Education

Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with a two year associate's degree, diploma or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school.  Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.

Experience

Over three years up to and including five years experience.

Supervision

Work requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, volunteers or temporary employees.

Human Collaboration Skills

Decisions regarding implementation of policies may be made. Contact may involve support of controversial positions or the negotiation of sensitive issues or important presentations.  Contacts may involve stressful, negative interactions with the public requiring high levels of tact and the ability to respond to aggressive interpersonal interactions.

Freedom to Act

The employee normally performs the duty assignment according to his or her own judgment, requesting supervisory assistance only when necessary. Special projects are managed with little oversight and assignments may be reviewed upon completion. Performance reviewed periodically.

Technical Skills

Advanced: Work requires advanced skills and knowledge in approaches and systems, which affect the design and implementation of major programs and/or processes organization-wide. Independent judgment and decision-making abilities are necessary to apply technical skills effectively.

Budget Responsibility

Position has limited fiscal responsibility.  May assist in the collection of data in support of recommendations for departmental budget allocations.  May monitor division or program/project level budget and expenditures.

Reading

Advanced - Ability to read literature, books, reviews, scientific or technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and/or legal documents.  Ordinarily, such education is obtained in at the college level or above. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Math

Intermediate - Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Writing

Intermediate - Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.  Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
