Title:
Assistant City Prosecutor
FLSA Status: Exempt
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to
complete legal research, investigate charges and litigation,
file motions and pleadings, represent the city at bench and
jury trials, advise staff, and prepare documents for
approval. This is accomplished by reviewing reports and
documents, reviewing case files and previous convictions,
meeting with defendants and attorneys, preparing
correspondence, and working with crime victims. Other
duties include providing training and supervising special
programs.

Identifies valid complaints by

validity, selecting charges to be files, managing the
cases, considering potential defenses, reviewing
information from defense attorneys, formulating pleas,
communicating charges to police officers and victims,
obtaining additional information, and communicating with
staff. |

witnesses and victims; preparing and filing motions,
plea agreements and related paperwork; and ensuring all

victims and witnesses, analyzing arguments, conferring
with law enforcement, conducting legal research, and

legal issues, preparing responses, conducting oral
arguments, communicating with victims, requesting
appropriate restitution, and litigating restitution

REQUIREMENTS:

Formal Education |
Work requires specialized knowledge
in a professional or technical field. Work requires
professional level of knowledge of a discipline
equivalent to that which is acquired in a Masters or
Doctorate degree-level of study. |

Experience |
Over three years up to and
including five years experience. |
|
Supervision |
Work requires the occasional
direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees,
interns, volunteers or temporary employees. |
|

Decisions regarding implementation
of policies may be made. Contact may involve support of
controversial positions or the negotiation of sensitive
issues or important presentations. Contacts may involve
stressful, negative interactions with the public
requiring high levels of tact and the ability to respond

the college level or above. However, it may be obtained
