City Invests in Community Service Providers

Each year the city awards grants in-aid to not-for-profit social service and human service agencies whose programs benefit Peoria’s residents. These organizations serve those in need, offering programs and services for youth, the disabled, and the elderly; housing; family services and crisis intervention; legal assistance; and cultural economic development for the benefit of the city as a whole. City programs that provide these services may compete for the grants as well.

The city receives grant applications from agencies seeking financial assistance to support their programs on an annual basis. Programs are then assessed on their individual merits by a City Council subcommittee, which then evaluates each request and makes a final recommendation to the full City Council.

For Fiscal Year 2009, the Peoria City Council approved $191,500 from the city’s general fund and more than $950,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant and other funds to support these not-for-profit agencies that serve Peoria residents:
