Unintentional injury is the
leading cause of death for people between the ages of 1 and
21 and the fifth overall cause of death. Many of these
injuries and deaths are easily preventable by following
simple safety precautions. It is important to know both the
risks and how to avoid them.
Facts:
*Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for
people ages 3 through 33.
*We lose aver 45,000 people on the roadways each year.
*Every hour someone dies in the US because they were not
wearing a seat belt during an automobile
accident.
*One out of every three seniors over 65 falls each year.
*There are over 9,500 fall related deaths each year and
300,000 result in hip fractures.
*Over 4,000 people drown each year.
*Almost 4,000 people die in home fires each year.
