For Immediate Release Kimberly Drabik 623-773-7934 office 623-773-7294 fax kimberly.drabik@peoriaaz.gov Peoria Fire Department Battalion Chief Paul Carmen Retires May 1, 2008 -- Peoria, AZ – Battalion Chief Paul Carmen retires after 23 years of dedicated service to the Peoria Fire Department. Paul Carmen was hired in 1985 and has successfully competed and promoted among the ranks from firefighter to paramedic, to Engineer, to Captain and to Battalion Chief. Paul has served the Peoria Fire Department over the years in many ways always proving his commitment to life safety services. A few of Paul’s notable accomplishments throughout his career include serving as a Recruit Training Officer at the Phoenix Regional Training Academy, serving as an Adjunct Faculty Member at Glendale Community College teaching the Firefighter I & II programs, serving as the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Chief for a period as well as assisting with many other departmental projects. In addition to these roles, Paul has served on various committees in an effort to further the department. Paul served as a liaison for our Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. He became our “go to” person for technical assistance related to our communications network. He served on the Labor Management Steering Committee by supporting the Deployment and Emergency Preparedness Committees. Additionally, Paul played an integral role in Peoria’s involvement in the coordination efforts for the 2008 Super Bowl event hosted in Glendale. On a personal note, Paul is also a dedicated family man to his wife Laura and his son and daughter. In his spare time both Paul and Laura participate in competitive rodeo competitions. Paul Carmen’s official last day on Battalion 191 (B-shift) was April 28, 2009. The Peoria Fire Department is extremely proud and grateful to have had such a dedicated member on the department for 23 years and we wish him much happiness in his retirement.
