Senior Programs

Falls are the most significant safety issue faced by seniors. They are the leading cause of hospital admission and unintentional injury death for seniors. Preventing falls and fire-related injuries for the nearly 30,000 seniors in the city of Peoria is a top priority for the Peoria Fire Department. As such, the community services department offers Home Safety Visits for Peoria seniors.

The Home Safety Visit program sends trained volunteers to your home to provide education on fire and home safety issues, check your home for potential hazards and provide you with community resources. Volunteers will help check your smoke detectors, change the batteries if needed and install smoke detectors if you don’t have them.

This is an educational program and is not meant to replace a professional home inspection.

To sign up for a Home Safety Visit, or if you are interested in becoming a trained volunteer please call Tim Eiden at 623-779-7919 or e-mail tim.eiden@peoriaaz.gov.

The City of Peoria also offers senior safety group presentations. Call to schedule us at your next meeting.
