BEARDSLEY ROAD EXTENSION

Project Description
The Beardsley Road Extension project will provide additional access to the Loop 101 from the northern portion of the City of Peoria and the northwest valley. This will be accomplished by extending Beardsley Road from 81st Avenue across the New River via a bridge to a one-way frontage road, which starts at the 75th Avenue traffic interchange and terminates at the Union Hills Drive interchange. A bridge over Loop 101 running parallel to Union Hills Drive will allow frontage road traffic to access the northbound lanes of Loop 101 without having to go through the signalized interchange at Union Hills Drive.

Project Status
The city's design consultant submitted the final design concept report and 30 percent plans in July 2006. Shortly after these plans were submitted, city engineers participated in a three-day value engineering session with a separate engineering firm to evaluate the plans and discuss additional final design recommendations. City engineers are currently reviewing the results of the value engineering review in advance of final design kick-off in October. The City is also working to acquire the necessary right of way for the project. The anticipated construction start date is fall 2008.
