Community Services
The Community Services Department is responsible for both, programs and facilities in the following divisions:
PARKS
This division plans and conducts the maintenance of city parks, most right of way, trails, open space and most retention basins. It also designs and develops the Department’s Capital Improvement Plan, performs plan reviews for new planned area developments and oversees graffiti removal throughout the City. RECREATION PROGRAMS
This Division offers a wide variety of programs and classes for children, teens, adults, seniors and people with a disability. These programs include: after school programs, summer programs, swimming classes, sports programs, teen programs, adaptive recreation programs, senior programs, outdoor programs and special interest classes.
Classes and programs are offered at the Peoria Community Center or at school sites through Inter-Governmental Agreements (IGAs) with the Peoria School District. The new Rio Vista Recreation Center now hosts several classes.

LIBRARY OPERATIONS
The main and branch libraries offer adult and youth programs and services such as Summer Reading Program, Family Place, Storytimes, Teen advisory group, author visits, Library Fest, computer classes. They also offer interlibrary loan services, an interactive website and wireless internet access.
The new Branch Library at the Camino a Lago area has now replaced the high school facility and opened March 7, 2009.
SPECIAL EVENTS
The City of Peoria hosts many exciting special events throughout the year for our community. Whether it's the annual 4th of July All American Festival or the illumination of hot air balloons at the Halloween Monster Bash and Balloon Illumination in October, there is plenty to see and do at each special event for the entire family.
SPORTS COMPLEX
The Peoria Sports Complex, with its 13 baseball fields, is home to the Seattle Mariners and the San Diego Padres. It also holds various tournaments, festivals, concerts, arts and crafts shows, and other community events.
This division also oversees the maintenance and operations of the Rio Vista Community Park which features little league fields, a splash park, sand volleyball courts, a playground, a fishing lake and picnic ramadas. The second phase of this park includes more little league fields, and multipurpose fields that were completed in October of 2006. It also includes the new Recreation Center and a veteran’s memorial that was completed the summer of 2007.
