Northern Avenue Sewer Line

Project Description
Installation of a 42-inch sewer line to provide wastewater capacity in the southern portion of Peoria, directing flow to the new Butler Water Reclamation Facility, expected to begin operation in fall 2008.

Project Status

March 7, 2007:
Installation of the sewer pipe beneath Northern Avenue near 99th Avenue will force a full closure of the road due to unstable soil conditions. The closure is expected to last three to four weeks. During that period, Olive Avenue and Glendale Avenue are recommended as alternate routes.

Normally, project engineers would maintain traffic flow on a major roadway, however the depth of the excavation required for this project combined with unstable soil in this area makes that an unsafe proposition for both motorists and construction crews.

The road restrictions will be phased, related to the work underway at the time. Please note that the time frames indicated here are best estimates - they may vary depending on conditions. The first
phase begins March 8 and lasts through March 12. During this closure, Northern Avenue will be closed from 103rd Avenue to the west side of 99th Avenue. During the second phase, March 12 through March 24, Northern Avenue will be closed from 103rd Avenue to Loop 101. The final phase will be March 15 through March 27. During this timeframe, Northern Avenue will be closed on the east side of 99th Avenue to the Loop 101.

During all three closures, Glendale Avenue, Olive Avenue, 103rd Avenue or Loop 101 may be used as alternate routes. Please allow yourself extra time to get where you are going, as there may be traffic delays. Obey all traffic signs and barricades as they are in place for your safety and the safety of others.
